You are so important to the life of the Christian church! You have consented to join with other people of faith who, through the millennia, have sustained the church by extending God’s love to others.
The Church Council
“The church council shall provide for planning and implementing a program of nurture, outreach, witness, and resources in the local church. It shall also provide for the administration of its organization and temporal life. It shall envision, plan, implement, and annually evaluate the mission and ministry of the church. The church council shall be amenable to and function as the administrative agency of the charge conference.” (¶ 252, The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church)
At Cascade United Methodist Church, we also place considerable emphasis on the nuture and development of our children, youth, young adults and our older adults (“torchbearers”). We are intentional in our efforts to not only promote continual growth but to also ensure the global effectiveness of our congregation.
What Does a Church Council Do?
The church council exists to create and supervise the strategic plan for the local congregation so that the congregation fulfills its mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. This twofold function includes both leadership and management. Leadership is the visionary “big picture” work that assesses critically where the congregation is today, where God is calling it to be in the future, and what resources will be requiredto move from our current state into our desired future.
